Small or Dense Breasts
Standard mammography relies on compression to spread breast tissue which can be especially difficult for women with small breasts. This often produces inconclusive results for those with dense tissue. Overlapping tissue can obscure findings. And, calcifications and other subtle abnormalities can be missed entirely.
Breast Implants
Compression based mammography poses real risks for women with implants. Mammo plates can stress, damage, or dislodge implants. As a result, many women with implants avoid or delay screening. The Vera Scan has the additional benefit of allowing inspection of the implant itself, giving your physician a complete picture of breast and implant health.
Cultural or Religious Barriers
For some patients, the physical contact and exposure involved in traditional mammography conflicts with personal, cultural, or religious beliefs.
